Bedroom Update

I've just done a very silly thing - prepared this post, added photos and posted it all to the wrong blog!  That's what happens when I don't pay attention.    All sorted out now and I can go ahead and show you the stage I'm at with the Bedroom.   I'll give more detail on where I bought what once all the accessories are in place.

Below is the "fourth wall" with the door leading into the Laird's study (the extending section on this property)

The screen below is from Art of Mini.   I replaced the decorative paper panels provided  with very thin leather.

Unusual for a Laird and his lady wife to share a room in 1850 but this is the Scottish Highlands and it can be very cold!

As you can see below, there is a decorative ceiling rose.    I decided that something had to be added to that space but there isn't enough room to include the drop of a light fitting.   It wouldn't be unusual to have no form of lighting there and I like to think it has given the room some atmosphere.

The little accessories that bring the room to life have all still to be added so until then, I'd like to wish all my followers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  2. Oh, Irene, I did laugh when I read you had gone to all that bother, only to find you had put it in the wrong blog!! bless you! The debroom is coming along very well indeed. The bed looks great and the fabric is draped and arranged perfectly.
Enjoy the rest of the holidays...

  3. Happy 2019 Irene and thank you for the up-date of Marsh Hall. I am always Amazed at the authentic architectural details you know how to include with each of your builds and how they effectively add the correct distinction to each of your mini habitations.
I LOVE the curtained doors especially appropriate for a drafty old house, and the winged chair next to the fire is exactly where I would be in this room. The curtained bed is like a room within a room and it all looks very cosy under the canopy.
Beautifully done and can't wait for Part 2! :D

  4. You can just imagine the draughts in this house - hence the curtained door, chair up to the fire and a draught screen for behind the chair to protect your neck when you settle down with a book. Lap of luxury this - truly a Laird.

  5. Hi Irene! Clearly I missed this post! The room looks so cozy and inviting with the chair by the fire and the curtains at the bed and doors! I agree that it would not be unusual to have no overhead light in a bedroom of that era... we make the mistake now of thinking all bedrooms had a chandelier in them... why would they bother? It was for sleeping and chandeliers are tricky to light with all those candles... and expensive too! LOL! I think this room looks wonderful... and Marsh Hall is becoming one of those places I would really love to live! Keep up the great work!
